A cold or a flu – should I work out?

I felt sick yesterday and stayed in. Today a felt a bit better and thought I hit the gym, to boost my immune system. Good idea?

No.

When you are sick, the immune system relies heavily on the amino acid flow from your muscles and triggers through cytokines some catabolic processes. Those can NOT be reversed through a workout. You will feel better during the workout, as the adrenaline rushes through your body and you will feel quite good, however your power will be far less than it usually is.

When you are sick and stay in, don’t workout and add an extra day before hitting the gym. You will need it to be able to work out full power.
